Walsh Wireless Solutions and ZoomSafer Partner to Prevent Distracted Driving

written by Christopher

Innovative Solution Combines Smartphone Policy Software With Vehicle Telematics

SAN RAMON, CA–(June 8, 2010) –  Walsh Wireless, a leading provider of wireless technology solutions for corporate customers, and ZoomSafer, the industry leader of policy management software to prevent distracted driving, today announced their partnership to offer FleetSafer, an application designed to help corporate fleet owners and the usage-based insurance industry reduce risk and liability associated with distracted driving.

In March, Walsh Wireless teamed with Sprint to introduce the Walsh DataLogger™ an easy-to-use, self-installed telematics device that enables corporate fleet managers and the usage-based insurance industry to wirelessly monitor the performance of a vehicle, its location and the driver’s behavior in real-time. Through its partnership with ZoomSafer, Walsh Wireless becomes the industry’s first telematics vendor to offer corporate customers and UBI auto insurance carriers a fully integrated solution that modifies employee behavior as it relates to operation of motor vehicles and usage of mobile phones while driving.

Automotive drivers are increasingly texting and emailing while driving, which can lead to crashes and inevitably to lawsuits filed against corporate employers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that on-the-job automobile crashes cost employers an average of $24,500 per crash, $150,000 per injury and $3,600,000 per fatality.

“Today’s businesses are aware of the swiftly increasing risks associated with distracted driving, and many are enacting policies to manage cell phone use while driving,” said Matt Howard, CEO of ZoomSafer. “FleetSafer for business gives Walsh Wireless the means to enhance the value its Walsh DataLogger solution, enabling corporate customers to minimize liability by proactively encouraging employee motorists to use their mobile phones in safe, legal and responsible ways.”

“We are excited for the opportunity to integrate FleetSafer with our Walsh Datalogger,” said Chick Walsh, Chief Strategy Officer of Walsh Wireless. “FleetSafer is a critical application, which enables our customers to prevent employees from texting and emailing while driving, ensuring hands-free use of phones. The Walsh Datalogger has been designed to add applications for GPS software, driver scoring software and now ZoomSafer software.”

Utilizing the latest in wireless technology and management software, Walsh Wireless and ZoomSafer have built a practical and affordable solution for what is becoming one of the most hazardous trends on the road today.

Sprint and Walsh Wireless Launch M2M Device to Drive Usage-Based Insurance for Vehicles

written by Christopher

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — March 10, 2010 — Increasingly automobile insurance companies are adapting the way they charge customers, basing rates more on individual vehicle use and driving behavior. This is known as Usage-based Insurance (UBI). Sprint (NYSE: S) and Walsh Wireless today announced the certification and availability of a solution developed to meet this unique and growing market – the Walsh Wireless Data Logger, powered exclusively by Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband.

Walsh CDMA 400 and 450 DataLogger

The UBI model helps insurance companies be more innovative and competitive in their approach by improving their risk assessment process, reducing customer churn and ultimately reducing the claims received. Drivers could see a reduction in their premiums by being rewarded for low mileage and/or safe driving habits. The Walsh Data Logger provides the ability to wirelessly monitor in real-time the performance of a vehicle, its location and the driver’s driving pattern through an easy-to-use, self-installed device. It can also benefit government entities and businesses that need to better manage large fleets of vehicles.

“This is one of many excellent examples of how we work with various industries to radically change business models to drive more value for developers, customers and end-users,” said Wayne Ward, vice president of Emerging Solutions, Sprint. “This is a great addition to our industry-leading portfolio of M2M embedded devices and we’re pleased to work with our long-time partner, Walsh Wireless, to bring another industry-first solution to the marketplace that leverages our dependable 3G mobile broadband network.”

Chick Walsh, chief strategy officer, Walsh Wireless Solutions, added, “We are excited to add the Walsh DL400 and DL450 Data Logger to our ever-expanding portfolio of exclusive products and services. And furthermore, bring a value added wireless solution to the UBI Auto Insurance and Fleet Management industries.”

In October 2009, Sprint announced the formation of its Emerging Solutions Business group, which focuses exclusively on the rapid delivery of end-to-end M2M and mobile computing solutions to businesses and consumers. Sprint’s relationship with Walsh Wireless builds on more than 10 years of experience in working with an open network of ecosystem partners  to provision both Sprint-branded and non-Sprint-branded devices to operate on its networks, as well as extensive expertise in operating multiple platforms and assets. Walsh Wireless Delivers Sprint Connectivity with
Digital Signage and Kiosk Network Solutions

Company Unveils New ‘Total Connectivity’ Line of Cellular Wireless Solutions at 2010 Digital Signage Expo

San Ramon, California – February 22, 2010 – Responding to rapid growth in the digital signage market and increasing demand for cost-effective connectivity options, Walsh Wireless, a leading innovator in wireless solutions, today announced plans to unveil its Total Connectivity Solutions, a new line of turnkey wireless service offerings, at the 2010 Digital Signage Expo. Combining elegant wireless engineering with 5-star service expertise and powered by Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband and Sprint 4G, Walsh Wireless aims to reduce complexity and simplify the process with a package that combines all the components necessary to implement digital signage into a single, out-of-the-box solution that can be deployed in any environment at one low cost.

Until now, the complexity associated with implementing a digital signage network has made it prohibitive to many organizations, given the varying technologies and equipment required to support it, the number of carriers required to manage it, the rigorous installation and security requirements, necessary device and network management capabilities, and other factors.  By utilizing Walsh’s Total Connectivity Solutions, Digital Signage providers can greatly streamline deployment, and reduce installation costs as well as total cost of ownership. High-speed, wireless broadband also has been proven to be less costly and competitive to wired data connectivity for deploying and managing Digital Signage and Kiosk networks

“It’s time for Cellular Wireless to become a truly a viable option for driving new sources of revenue.  We’ve developed our new turnkey cellular wireless solutions with simplicity and cost efficiency in mind,” said Jason Dennis, Director of Wireless Strategies at Walsh Wireless. “By reducing the complexity and time to deployment involved with implementation and management of digital signage and kiosk networks, we’re aiming to make cellular wireless solutions accessible to any business.”

Wayne Ward, vice president of Emerging Solutions, Sprint, added, “There is a growing demand to wirelessly enabling digital signage since it is ubiquitously available, economical and simple to install. This category also is quickly evolving to media rich high-definition content, which can be enabled by our turbocharged 4G capabilities, which delivers downlink speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G.* We’re pleased to partner with Walsh to further simplify the process and help businesses be more competitive

The new Total Connectivity line of cellular wireless solutions are the latest addition to the expanding portfolio of comprehensive, reliable and cost-effective solutions available from Walsh Wireless. Design, implementation, and management of cellular wireless data networks requires varied skill sets, specialized knowledge and experience specific to each wireless carrier, as well as access to carrier networks’ support resources. Walsh Wireless offers more than 25 years of combined cellular wireless data engineering expertise. Designed with simplicity and reliability in mind, its Total Connectivity service packages provide operators and end users with comprehensive and cost-effective cellular wireless solutions.
